Biography
David Tree (born Ian David Parsons; 15 July 1915 – 4 November 2009) was an English stage and screen actor. He came from a theatrical family as the grandson of actor-manager Herbert Beerbohm Tree and the son of actress Viola Tree and theatre critic Alan Parsons.
Tree began appearing on stage as a child and entered films in 1937. His roles included Freddy Eynsford-Hill in Pygmalion (1938), Jackson in Goodbye, Mr. Chips (1939), Robert Mackenzie in Q Planes (1939) and Charles Lomax in Major Barbara (1941). After wartime service in the British Army, during which he lost his left hand, he left acting for farming. In 1973 he returned for a single film role as Anthony Babbage in Don't Look Now, directed by his friend Nicolas Roeg; the Tree family home was used for some scenes.
