Biography
Derek Newark (1933–1998) was an English actor who appeared in film, television and theatre. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and began his career in the early 1960s, with early television roles including appearances in Doctor Who (1963) as Za and Greg Sutton.
He is known for film roles such as the uncredited German Major in Where Eagles Dare (1968), Ziegel in The Blue Max (1966) and Frank Jessard in The Offence (1973), and television work including The Avengers, Dad's Army (1971), Rising Damp and Only Fools and Horses (1981) as Eric the Policeman. Newark also had a substantial stage career, notably with the Royal National Theatre.
