Biography
Derrick Branche is a British actor and musician. Born in 1947 in Mumbai, India, he was educated at St. Peter's School in Panchgani, where he was a classmate of Freddie Mercury and the guitarist in Mercury's first band, The Hectics.
Branche is best known for his role as Salim in the 1985 film My Beautiful Laundrette. His other credits include the recurring role of Nurse Gupte in the television series Only When I Laugh (1979–1981), Ahmed Kasim in The Jewel in the Crown (1984), and Father Jose Fernandez in Father Ted (1995). He also appeared in films such as The Sicilian (1987) and Bloodline (1979), and in episodes of Blake's 7 (1978). His acting career spanned from 1978 to 2002.
