Biography
Devereaux Jennings (22 September 1884 – 12 March 1952) was an American cinematographer active in Hollywood from the silent era through the 1940s. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, he worked under the names Dev Jennings and J. Devereaux Jennings.
He is best known for his cinematography on Buster Keaton comedies, including The General (1926), Battling Butler (1926), College (1927) and Steamboat Bill, Jr. (1928), often collaborating with Bert Haines. His other credits include The Public Enemy (1931).
Later in his career Jennings contributed to visual effects and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects on Unconquered (1947). He was the brother of special-effects expert Gordon Jennings.
