Biography
Don Guest was an American film producer and production manager. Born in Oklahoma in 1934, he moved with his family to Los Angeles during the Dust Bowl era. He began his career in television at ZIV-TV before working as a production manager on features including Michelangelo Antonioni’s Zabriskie Point (1970), Peter Bogdanovich’s The Last Picture Show (1971) and Sam Peckinpah’s The Getaway (1972).
As a producer, Guest’s credits include Paul Schrader’s Blue Collar (1978), Wim Wenders’s Hammett (1982) and Paris, Texas (1984), the latter winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes. He later produced At Close Range (1986) and the international co-production Shadow of China (1990). Guest died on 23 April 2010 in Tours, France, where he had lived for nine years.
