Biography
Donald Woods (born Ralph Lewis Zink) was a Canadian-American actor whose career in film and television spanned six decades. Born on 2 December 1906 in Brandon, Manitoba, he was raised in Burbank, California, after his family moved there. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and made his film debut in 1928.
Woods appeared in supporting and leading roles in features including A Tale of Two Cities (1935) as Charles Darnay, Anthony Adverse (1936) as Vincent Nolte, The Story of Louis Pasteur (1936) as Dr Jean Martel, and Watch on the Rhine (1943) as David Farrelly. He also worked extensively in B movies, such as playing Perry Mason in The Case of the Stuttering Bishop (1937), and later in television series including Lassie, Ironside, The Wild Wild West and True Grit (1969). His brother, Clarence Russell Zink, acted under the name Russ Conway.
