Biography

Dustin Lance Black is an American screenwriter, director and producer. He was born on 10 June 1974 in Sacramento, California, and graduated with honours from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television in 1996.

Black wrote the screenplay for the 2008 film Milk, for which he won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2009. His other writing credits include the films J. Edgar (2011) and Rustin (2023), the miniseries Under the Banner of Heaven (2022) and the HBO series Big Love (2006–09). He began his career writing and directing early independent films such as The Journey of Jared Price (2000).
