Biography
Bruce L. Cohen is a film, television and theatre producer. Born on 23 September 1961 in Falls Church, Virginia, he graduated from Yale University with a BA in Film Studies in 1983. He began his career as a Directors Guild of America trainee on Steven Spielberg's The Color Purple (1985) and later worked as first assistant director and associate producer on Hook (1991).
Cohen's film credits as producer include The Flintstones (1994), MouseHunt (1997), American Beauty (1999), Big Fish (2003), Milk (2008), Silver Linings Playbook (2012) and Blink Twice (2024). He won the Academy Award for Best Picture for American Beauty and received further nominations in the category for Milk and Silver Linings Playbook. He has also produced for television and received a National Medal of Arts in 2023.
In theatre, Cohen co-produced the Broadway productions of Big Fish, Slave Play and The Inheritance, the last of which won the Tony Award for Best Play. He is married to Gabriel Catone.
