Biography

Ewan Gordon McGregor is a Scottish actor. He was born on 31 March 1971 in Perth, Scotland, and studied drama at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. He left before completing the course after securing a role in the television series Lipstick on Your Collar (1993).

McGregor gained prominence for his role as Mark Renton in Trainspotting (1996). He is known for playing Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequel trilogy (1999–2005) and subsequent appearances, as well as for roles in Moulin Rouge! (2001), Big Fish (2003) and Angels & Demons (2009). He made his directorial debut with American Pastoral (2016).

For his performance in the third season of Fargo (2017), McGregor won a Golden Globe Award. He received a Primetime Emmy Award for his role in the miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022). His credits include Haywire (2011) as Kenneth and The End of Oak Street (2026) as Greg Platt. In 2013 he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to drama and charity.
