Biography
Andrew Macdonald is a Scottish film producer. Born in Glasgow in January 1966, he was educated at Glenalmond College. With Duncan Kenworthy he co-founded the production company DNA Films.
He is known for his collaborations with director Danny Boyle and writer John Hodge on films including Shallow Grave (1994), Trainspotting (1996), The Beach (2000) and 28 Days Later (2002). He has also worked frequently with writer-director Alex Garland on Ex Machina (2015), Annihilation (2018), Civil War (2024), Warfare (2025) and the 28 Years Later films (2025–2026).
Macdonald has produced more than thirty films and won a BAFTA Award. He is the brother of documentary filmmaker Kevin Macdonald and grandson of Emeric Pressburger.
