Biography
Ed Herlihy (1909–1999) was an American radio and television announcer and occasional actor. Educated at Boston College, he began his career in radio in Boston before joining NBC in 1935. He became a prominent voice for the network, serving as announcer on programmes including Kraft Music Hall and The Tonight Show during Jack Paar's tenure, and provided narration for Universal newsreels.
Herlihy voiced Kraft Foods commercials for nearly four decades and hosted The Horn and Hardart Children's Hour. In later years he appeared in films, often in voice or cameo roles, including as the announcer in The King of Comedy (1982), a newsreel announcer in Zelig (1983), Mr Buxton in Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985), and a newscaster in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). He also featured in Malcolm X (1992) and Don't Drink the Water (1994).
