Biography
Edith Evanson (née Carlson) was an American character actress in film, stage and television. She was born in Tacoma, Washington, where she worked as a court reporter before appearing in stage productions. In 1923 she married Morris Otto Evanson; the couple had no children.
Evanson began her film career in 1940 with an uncredited role in The Man Who Wouldn't Talk. In the 1940s and 1950s she appeared in supporting parts, often as maids, secretaries, landladies or busybodies. Her credits include Citizen Kane (1941), Woman of the Year (1942), Rope (1948) as Mrs. Wilson, The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951), Shane (1953), The Big Heat (1953) and Marnie (1964). She also worked in television from the late 1940s and retired in 1974.
