Biography
Eduard Artemyev (also credited as Eduard Nikolaevich Artemyev) was a Soviet and Russian composer of electronic music and film scores. He was born on 30 November 1937 in Novosibirsk and died on 29 December 2022 in Moscow. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory under Yuri Shaporin and graduated in 1960.
Artemyev was an early pioneer of electronic music in the Soviet Union, writing his first composition in 1967 using the ANS synthesizer. He is known for his film scores for Andrei Tarkovsky's Solaris (1972), Mirror (1975) and Stalker (1979). He also composed for films by Andrei Konchalovsky and Nikita Mikhalkov, including Burnt by the Sun (1994) and The Barber of Siberia (1998).
He was awarded the title People's Artist of Russia in 1999 and received multiple State Prizes of the Russian Federation and Nika Awards for his film music.
