Biography

Eduardo Ciannelli was an Italian baritone and character actor. He trained as a surgeon at the University of Naples before pursuing opera, singing at La Scala and touring Europe. He later moved to the United States, appearing on Broadway from the 1920s in productions including The Front Page and Winterset.

Ciannelli had a long career in American films and television, often playing gangsters and criminals. His credits include Mr. Krug in Alfred Hitchcock's Foreign Correspondent (1940), Giono in Kitty Foyle (1940), roles in Gunga Din (1939) and Marked Woman (1937), and later appearances in Houseboat (1958) and Mackenna's Gold (1969). He also worked in Italian cinema and on television series such as Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Mission: Impossible.
