Biography
Elisabeth Sladen was an English actress. She trained at drama school in Liverpool and began her career in repertory theatre, working as an assistant stage manager at the Liverpool Playhouse before taking acting roles. She appeared in early television series including Coronation Street and Z-Cars.
Sladen is best known for playing investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith in Doctor Who from 1973 to 1976, appearing alongside Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. She reprised the role in the 1981 pilot K-9 and Company, the 1983 special The Five Doctors, episodes of the revived Doctor Who series from 2006, and as the lead in the spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures from 2007 to 2011. She also appeared in Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em and The Bill.
