Biography
Elmore John Leonard Jr. (11 October 1925 – 20 August 2013) was an American novelist, short story writer and screenwriter. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and grew up in Detroit, Michigan.
Leonard began his career writing Western novels and short stories in the 1950s, including works later adapted as the films 3:10 to Yuma (1957) and The Tall T (1957). He later specialised in crime fiction.
His novels Get Shorty (1990), Rum Punch (1992) and Out of Sight (1996) were adapted into the films Get Shorty (1995), Jackie Brown (1997) and Out of Sight (1998). His short story 'Fire in the Hole' was the basis for the television series Justified (2010).
