Biography
Franco Cristaldi (3 October 1924 – 1 July 1992) was an Italian film producer. In 1946 he founded Vides Cinematografica in Turin, initially producing short and documentary films before focusing on feature films from the 1950s and moving to Rome. The company was later renamed Cristaldifilm.
He produced or co-produced more than 100 films, working with directors including Francesco Rosi, Pietro Germi, Mario Monicelli, Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti and Giuseppe Tornatore. Among his best-known productions are Big Deal on Madonna Street (1958), Divorce Italian Style (1961), Amarcord (1973), The Name of the Rose (1986) and Cinema Paradiso (1988). In 1977 he was elected president of the International Federation of Film Producers Associations.
