Biography
Tonino Guerra was an Italian poet, writer and screenwriter. He was born on 16 March 1920 in Santarcangelo di Romagna, Emilia-Romagna, and died on 21 March 2012 in the same town.
Guerra began writing poetry in dialect while interned in a German prison camp during the Second World War. He moved to Rome in 1953 and started his screenwriting career in the mid-1950s. His credits include the story and screenplay for Amarcord (1973), directed by Federico Fellini, as well as screenplays for films by Michelangelo Antonioni including L'Avventura (1960), La Notte (1961), L'Eclisse (1962), Red Desert (1964) and Blow-Up (1966), and work with Andrei Tarkovsky on Nostalgia (1983).
He also collaborated with Theo Angelopoulos and Francesco Rosi. Guerra received three Academy Award nominations for screenwriting.
