Biography
Françoise Bonnot (17 August 1939 – 9 June 2018) was a French film editor. Born in Bois-Colombes, Hauts-de-Seine, she was the daughter of film editor Monique Bonnot. Her early credits include assisting her mother on Jean-Pierre Melville's Two Men in Manhattan (1959) and co-editing Henri Verneuil's A Monkey in Winter (1962).
Bonnot edited Melville's Army of Shadows (1969) and began a long collaboration with Costa-Gavras on Z (1969), for which she won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing. Their partnership continued on eight further films over nearly thirty years, including Missing (1982), for which she received a BAFTA Award for Best Editing.
She edited more than forty feature films, among them Roman Polanski's The Tenant (1976), Michael Cimino's Year of the Dragon (1985) and Ridley Scott's 1492: Conquest of Paradise (1992). Later credits include four films directed by Julie Taymor: Titus (1999), Frida (2002), Across the Universe (2007) and The Tempest (2010).
