Biography
Frank S. Nugent was an American screenwriter and former film critic. He began his career as a reporter and film reviewer for The New York Times, writing nearly a thousand reviews before moving to Hollywood in 1940 as a script doctor.
He wrote 21 feature screenplays, eleven of them for director John Ford. His credits include Fort Apache (1948), She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949), Wagon Master (1950), The Quiet Man (1952), Mister Roberts (1955) and The Searchers (1956). Nugent received an Academy Award nomination for adapted screenplay for The Quiet Man and won two Writers Guild of America Awards for best written American comedy, for The Quiet Man and Mister Roberts.
