Biography
Frank Skinner was an American film composer and arranger. Born on 31 December 1897 in Meredosia, Illinois, he studied at the Chicago Musical College. He began his career playing piano in vaudeville with his brother and later arranged popular songs in New York before moving to Hollywood.
Skinner worked briefly at MGM and then spent three decades at Universal Studios from 1938, composing or orchestrating scores for more than 200 films. He is known for his work on Son of Frankenstein (1939), The Wolf Man (1941), Saboteur (1942), Harvey (1950), Winchester '73 (1950), All That Heaven Allows (1955), Written on the Wind (1956) and Imitation of Life (1959). He received five Academy Award nominations between 1938 and 1943.
