Biography
Frank John Williams (1931–2022) was an English actor best known for playing the Reverend Timothy Farthing in the BBC sitcom Dad's Army (1969–1977). He joined the series at the start of its third series and appeared in 39 of its 80 episodes, as well as the 1971 feature film, the stage adaptation and the 2016 film version of the series.
Williams was often cast as clergymen and appeared in similar roles in other sitcoms including You Rang, M'Lord? and Hi-de-Hi!. His other credits include appearances in Monty Python's Flying Circus, Jabberwocky (1977) and Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978). He wrote the autobiography Vicar to Dad's Army (2002) and served three terms as a member of the General Synod of the Church of England between 1985 and 2000.
