Biography
Franklyn Ajaye is an American stand-up comedian, actor and writer. He was born on 13 May 1949 in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Los Angeles. He began performing stand-up in the early 1970s and released comedy albums from 1973 onwards.
Ajaye has appeared in films including Car Wash (1976), Convoy (1978), Stir Crazy (1980), The 'Burbs (1989) and Bridesmaids (2011). On television he has acted in Deadwood (2004–2006) and Deadwood: The Movie (2019) as Samuel Fields. His writing credits include episodes of In Living Color, The Parent 'Hood, Roc, Politically Incorrect and NYPD Blue (1995).
He received Primetime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program for In Living Color in 1990 and Politically Incorrect in 1997. Ajaye is the author of the book Comic Insights: The Art of Standup Comedy. He moved to Melbourne, Australia, in 1997.
