Biography
Frederic Knudtson was an American film editor whose career spanned more than three decades. Born in Apple Creek, North Dakota, he began as an assistant editor on What Price Hollywood? (1932) and went on to edit dozens of films, including many B-movies for RKO in the 1930s and 1940s.
He received his first Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing for The Window (1949). From the mid-1950s he worked regularly with director Stanley Kramer, editing The Defiant Ones (1958), On the Beach (1959), Inherit the Wind (1960), Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963). He earned five further Oscar nominations for these films and died in Los Angeles in 1964.
