Biography
Frederick Jaeger was a German-born British character actor. Born Manfred Frederick Jaeger in Berlin on 29 May 1928, his family fled Nazi persecution, first to France and then to England in 1939. He trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating in 1948, and became a British citizen in 1950.
Jaeger began his stage career in 1949 with repertory seasons before West End appearances. His television work started in 1955 and film roles in 1956; he continued across stage, screen, radio and television until retiring in 1996. He appeared as Godfrey Finch in the 1980 series Yes Minister, as well as in Doctor Who (three serials, including Professor Marius in 1977), Keeping Up Appearances (1993) and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). Jaeger died on 18 June 2004 in Mallorca, Spain.
