Biography
Gail Parent is an American television screenwriter, producer and author. Born Gail Kostner in New York City on 12 August 1940, she began her writing career in the 1960s, often collaborating with Kenny Solms. Her early work included contributions to variety series such as The Carol Burnett Show.
She wrote an episode of The Mary Tyler Moore Show in 1971 and co-created the satirical soap opera Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. Parent later wrote for The Golden Girls and served as writer and producer on Tracey Ullman's Tracey Takes On.... Her screenplays include The Main Event (1979) and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004). She is also the author of the bestselling novel Sheila Levine Is Dead and Living in New York.
Parent has received two Primetime Emmy Awards and multiple nominations, along with other industry recognition.
