Biography
Gene Ruggiero was an American film editor. He began his career at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer after being dismissed from a job as a golf caddy; he received his first editing credit on the 1939 film Ninotchka.
Ruggiero edited numerous films at MGM and elsewhere, including The Shop Around the Corner (1940), Oklahoma! (1955), Around the World in 80 Days (1956) and The Last Man on Earth (1964). He shared the Academy Award for Best Film Editing for Around the World in 80 Days and received a nomination for Oklahoma!. He later worked on independent films and television episodes.
Ruggiero was a member of the American Cinema Editors and received the organisation's Career Achievement Award in 1994.
