Biography
Geoffrey Toone (15 November 1910 – 1 June 2005) was an English actor. Born in Dublin to English parents, he was educated at Charterhouse School and Christ's College, Cambridge. He began his stage career in the early 1930s with the Old Vic company and appeared in productions including John Gielgud's 1934 Hamlet and the 1935 Romeo and Juliet with Gielgud and Laurence Olivier.
Toone served in the Royal Artillery during the Second World War until he was invalided out in 1942. His film roles included Sir Edward Ramsay in The King and I (1956), Harold Hubbard in The Entertainer (1960) and the lead in the Hammer film The Terror of the Tongs (1961). He was a frequent presence on British television, with appearances in Doctor Who (as Hepesh), Only Fools and Horses, Jeeves and Wooster and Yes Minister.
