Biography

George Barrows (7 February 1914 – 17 October 1994) was an American actor. Born in New York City, he was the son of actor Henry A. Barrows. He is best known for playing Ro-Man the Monster and the Great Guidance in the 1953 science-fiction film Robot Monster.

Barrows frequently appeared in gorilla suits in films and television, and he constructed the suit used in Robot Monster, Gorilla at Large (1954) and other productions; the suit is held in the collection of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Outside these roles he took numerous uncredited bit parts and performed stunt work across a career that ran from the 1930s to the early 1980s.
