Biography
George Hively (1889–1950) was an American film editor and screenwriter. He began his career writing scenarios for silent westerns from 1917, including twelve early John Ford films, before moving into editing during the sound era. He held contracts at MGM from 1926 to 1932 and at RKO from 1933 to 1941, returning to MGM from 1943 to 1945.
Hively edited Bringing Up Baby (1938), The Informer (1935) – for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Film Editing – Love Affair (1939) and The Mad Miss Manton (1938). He was the father of film and television editors George Hively and Jack Hively. He retired in 1945 and died in Los Angeles, California.
