Biography
Georges Auric was a French composer. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire and with Vincent d’Indy at the Schola Cantorum de Paris. In the 1920s he was associated with Erik Satie and Jean Cocteau and was grouped with the composers known as Les Six.
Auric wrote scores for numerous films. His credits include Roman Holiday (1953), The Wages of Fear (1953), Beauty and the Beast (1946), The Lavender Hill Mob (1951), Rififi (1955) and The Innocents (1961). He also composed ballets and incidental music for the stage. From 1962 he served as director of the Paris Opéra and Opéra-Comique.
