Biography

Gilbert Gottfried was an American stand-up comedian and actor. Born in Brooklyn, New York City, on 28 February 1955, he began performing stand-up at the age of 15 and joined the cast of Saturday Night Live in 1980.

He voiced the parrot Iago in the Disney film Aladdin (1992) and its sequels The Return of Jafar (1994) and Aladdin and the King of Thieves (1996). Other film roles include Beverly Hills Cop II (1987) and Problem Child (1990). He also provided voices for series including Family Guy, SpongeBob SquarePants and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Gottfried hosted the podcast Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal Podcast from 2014. The documentary Gilbert about his life and career was released in 2017. He died on 12 April 2022.
