Biography
Gus Kahn was an American lyricist. Born Gustav Gerson Kahn in 1886 in Germany, he emigrated to Chicago as a child. He began his career writing for vaudeville and Tin Pan Alley before contributing to Broadway shows.
From 1933 he worked extensively in film, providing lyrics for titles including Flying Down to Rio (1933), The Merry Widow (1934), A Day at the Races (1937) and Love Me or Leave Me (1955). His work on the title song and thematic music for One Night of Love (1934) earned an Academy Award for Best Original Score.
Kahn died in Beverly Hills, California, in 1941.
