Biography
Hal McElroy is an Australian film and television producer. Born on 6 April 1946 in Melbourne, Victoria, he is the twin brother of fellow producer Jim McElroy. The brothers entered the film industry in the mid-1960s and collaborated on several early productions before establishing their own company.
They are best known for producing three Peter Weir films: The Cars That Ate Paris (1974), Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) and The Last Wave (1977). Hal McElroy later worked independently on films including Razorback (1984) and The Sum of Us (1994), and produced or created numerous television series such as Blue Heelers (1994–2006), Water Rats (1996–2001) and Sea Patrol (2007–2011). He has worked extensively with his wife, Di McElroy.
