Biography
Harold Hecht (1907–1985) was an American film producer. Born in Manhattan, he began his career as a dancer and choreographer before becoming a talent agent and theatrical producer. In 1947 he co-founded Norma Productions with Burt Lancaster, later forming Hecht-Lancaster Productions and, from 1954, Hecht-Hill-Lancaster Productions.
Hecht produced Marty (1955), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and Separate Tables (1958), for which he received a further nomination. Other notable productions include Sweet Smell of Success (1957), The Unforgiven (1960), Birdman of Alcatraz (1962) and Cat Ballou (1965). Several of his films were selected for the National Film Registry.
