Biography
Harris Savides (1957–2012) was an American cinematographer. He was born in New York City and began his career working on music videos and commercials before moving into feature films.
Savides collaborated frequently with director Gus Van Sant, serving as director of photography on Finding Forrester (2000), Gerry (2002), Elephant (2003), Last Days (2005), Milk (2008) and Restless (2011). His other credits include The Game (1997) and Zodiac (2007) for David Fincher, American Gangster (2007) for Ridley Scott, Somewhere (2010) and The Bling Ring (2013) for Sofia Coppola, and films for Noah Baumbach and Jonathan Glazer.
He received a New York Film Critics Circle award for best cinematography for Gerry and Elephant, and was nominated for several Independent Spirit Awards and a BAFTA for American Gangster.
