Biography
Harry Shannon (13 June 1890 – 27 July 1964) was an American character actor. Born on a farm in Saginaw, Michigan, he began his career in repertory theatre, vaudeville and tent shows before appearing in Broadway musicals including Oh, Kay! (1926), Hold Everything (1928), Simple Simon (1931) and Pardon My English (1933). He entered films in the early sound era and became a familiar supporting player, particularly in Westerns.
Shannon appeared in more than 140 films. His credits include Citizen Kane (1941) as Kane's father, High Noon (1952) as Cooper, Touch of Evil (1958) as Chief Gould and Gypsy (1962) as the grandfather. He also worked frequently in 1950s television Westerns such as Cheyenne, Have Gun – Will Travel, Rawhide and Gunsmoke.
