Biography
Haruko Katō (加藤 治子) was a Japanese actress. She was born on 24 November 1922 in Akasaka, Minato, Tokyo, and died on 2 November 2015 in Tokyo.
After training at Shochiku Shōjo Kageki Gakkō, she joined the film company Toho in 1939 and made her debut in Hanatsumi Nikki that year. She appeared in numerous stage plays, films and television dramas, and provided voice roles in several anime productions.
Katō is known for voicing Madame Suliman in Howl's Moving Castle (2004) and the Old Lady in Kiki's Delivery Service (1989). Her other credits include the Grandmother in Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (1985) and Kinu Akabane in A Taxing Woman's Return (1988). She received the Kinokuniya Theatre Prize individual award in 2001 and the Order of the Precious Crown in 2002.
