Biography
Hedda Hopper was an American actress and gossip columnist. Born Elda Furry in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, she began her career on stage before moving to Hollywood in the 1910s, where she appeared in numerous films in supporting roles.
From the late 1930s she wrote the syndicated column 'Hedda Hopper's Hollywood' for the Los Angeles Times and other outlets, reaching a readership of millions. She also hosted radio and television programmes. In later years she frequently played herself on screen, including a cameo in Sunset Boulevard (1950).
Hopper was the mother of actor William Hopper. She died in Los Angeles in 1966.
