Biography
Hermione Baddeley (born Hermione Youlanda Ruby Clinton-Baddeley) was an English actress who worked in theatre, film and television. She made her stage debut in 1918 and appeared in West End productions from the 1920s, later becoming known for revue work alongside Hermione Gingold.
She played Mrs Cratchit in the 1951 film Scrooge, Ellen in Mary Poppins (1964), and voiced Madame in The Aristocats (1970). In 1982 she voiced Auntie Shrew in The Secret of NIMH. On television she appeared in series including Bewitched, Batman, Little House on the Prairie and Maude. She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Room at the Top (1959) and won a Golden Globe for her performance in Maude.
Baddeley was the sister of actress Angela Baddeley. She died in Los Angeles in 1986.
