Biography
Ian Gelder was a British actor. Born Ian Denbigh White in Gloucestershire in 1949, he trained at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and adopted his mother’s maiden name for his professional career. He began acting professionally in 1972.
Gelder had an extensive stage career, appearing with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre. On television he played Mr Dekker in Torchwood: Children of Earth (2009) and Kevan Lannister in Game of Thrones (2011–2016). His other credits include Doctor Who, His Dark Materials and the role of Dr Jonathan Kwattes in Brass Eye (1997).
His partner was the actor Ben Daniels. Gelder died in 2024.
