Biography
Ian Martin (born 1953) is an English comedy writer. He was born in London and has lived in Lancaster since 1988.
Martin began his career as a journalist and columnist, notably for the Architects' Journal, and ran the satirical website martian.fm. In 2005 he was hired by Armando Iannucci as a 'swearing consultant' for the first series of The Thick of It and later joined the writing team. He contributed additional material to the 2009 film In the Loop and co-wrote the screenplay for The Death of Stalin (2017).
Martin wrote for five series of the HBO series Veep (2012–2019), for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award, and contributed to Avenue 5 (2020). He has also written books including The Coalition Chronicles (2011) and is a regular contributor to The Guardian.
