Biography
Jesse David Armstrong is an English screenwriter and producer. Born on 13 December 1970 in Oswestry, Shropshire, he studied at the University of Manchester. He began his career co-creating the Channel 4 comedy series Peep Show (2003–2015) with writing partner Sam Bain, and later co-created Fresh Meat (2011–2016). He also contributed to The Thick of It (2005–2009) and co-wrote the film In the Loop (2009).
Armstrong wrote the Black Mirror episode 'The Entire History of You' (2011) and created the HBO series Succession (2018–2023). His other credits include co-writing the films Four Lions (2010) and Downhill (2020), and writing and directing the television film Mountainhead (2025). He has also written for Veep (2012).
