Biography
Ian Mune is a New Zealand actor, director and screenwriter. Born in Auckland in 1941 and educated at Wesley College, he began acting on stage and screen in the early 1970s after time spent in the United Kingdom.
His screen credits include the Reverend in The Piano (1993), a Bounder in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), and judges in Once Were Warriors (1994) and Housebound (2014). He has also appeared in series such as Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and The Brokenwood Mysteries.
As a director Mune is known for Came a Hot Friday (1985), The End of the Golden Weather (1991) and What Becomes of the Broken Hearted? (1999). He was appointed OBE in 1991 and knighted KNZM in 2024 for services to film, television and theatre.
