Biography
Ida Random is a production designer. Born in April 1945 in Johnstone, Scotland, she moved to California to study art and design before beginning her film career as an art director.
She received an Academy Award nomination for her work on Rain Man (1988). Her breakthrough as production designer came with The Big Chill (1983), after which she collaborated with director Lawrence Kasdan on Silverado (1985) and Wyatt Earp (1994). Other credits include The War of the Roses (1989), Hoffa (1992), The Postman (1997), Spanglish (2004), The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) and Fast & Furious (2009).
In 2022 Random received the Art Directors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award.
