Biography
Isobel Lennart (18 May 1915 – 25 January 1971) was an American screenwriter and playwright. She began her career at MGM in the early 1940s after working as a script clerk and rose to become a contract writer. Her first credited screenplay was The Affairs of Martha (1942), followed by A Stranger in Town (1943) and Anchors Aweigh (1945).
Lennart wrote or co-wrote numerous films for major stars, including Love Me or Leave Me (1955), The Inn of the Sixth Happiness (1958), Please Don't Eat the Daisies (1960), The Sundowners (1960) and Funny Girl (1968). She also wrote the book for the Broadway musical Funny Girl, which premiered in 1964. She received Academy Award nominations for Love Me or Leave Me and The Sundowners, and won a Writers Guild of America Laurel Award for Screenwriting Achievement in 1966.
