Biography
Jack Hedley was an English actor. Born Jack Snowdon Hawkins in London in 1929, he changed his professional name to avoid confusion with another British actor of the same name.
His screen career began in the 1950s. He appeared in uncredited roles in Lawrence of Arabia (1962) and A Night to Remember (1958), and had parts in films including The Longest Day (1962) and Room at the Top (1959). On television he played the title role in the BBC series The World of Tim Frazer (1960–61) and Lt Colonel Preston in Colditz (1972–74). He also appeared as Alan Haldane in Who Pays the Ferryman? (1977) and General von Karzibrot in 'Allo 'Allo! (1984).
Hedley played Sir Timothy Havelock in the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only (1981), also providing the voice of the character's parrot. Later film roles included Lt Fred Williams in The New York Ripper (1982) and Mr Forester in Character (1997). He died in 2021.
