Biography
James Gregory (23 December 1911 – 16 September 2002) was an American character actor. He made his Broadway debut in the 1939 production of Key Largo and appeared in around 25 further Broadway plays over the next 16 years. His film debut came in 1948, after which he took roles in numerous films and television series.
He is known for playing Senator John Yerkes Iselin in The Manchurian Candidate (1962), General Ursus in Beneath the Planet of the Apes (1970), Dr Tristan Adams in the Star Trek episode "Dagger of the Mind" (1966), and Inspector Frank Luger in the sitcom Barney Miller (1975–1982). Gregory also appeared in The Sons of Katie Elder (1965), several Matt Helm films, and episodes of The Twilight Zone, Columbo, MASH and Bonanza*.
