Biography
James McArdle is a Scottish actor born on 3 April 1989 in Glasgow. He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), graduating in 2010. In his graduation year he appeared in Macbeth at the Globe and starred in Spur of the Moment at the Royal Court Theatre.
On stage he has performed in A Month in the Country, Chariots of Fire and Platonov, for which he won the Ian Charleson Award; he received an Olivier Award nomination for Angels in America. His screen credits include Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), Mary Queen of Scots (2018) as James, Earl of Moray, Ammonite (2020), Mare of Easttown (2021) as Mark Burton, Andor (2022) as Timm Karlo and the series War (2026) as Nicholas Taylor.
