Biography
James V. Hart, also credited as Jim Hart, is an American screenwriter and author. He is known for his work on literary adaptations and fantasy films, including the screenplays for Hook (1991), Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) and Contact (1997).
Hart graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1969 after studying film. His other screenwriting credits include Muppet Treasure Island (1996), Tuck Everlasting (2002), Sahara (2005), August Rush (2007) and Epic (2013). He wrote the children's novel Capt. Hook: The Adventures of a Notorious Youth (2005).
He lives in New York with his wife Judith. Their children, Jake and Julia Hart, are also screenwriters.
